The story of Ulysses S Grant is an American epic practically without equal. Hollywood couldn’t dream it up. Even to this day Grant’s persona and his will to succeed are an enigma to historians and fiction writers alike. How can anyone explain one-hundred-and-fifty years later, the psychology that drove this great general: an undaunted will to move forward, innate self confidence despite repeated failure, precision of language and forthrightness of character.
